We simultaneously upholstered two pairs of chairs for two different clients and finished at the same time. All Acanthus employees had a hand in these two jobs.

These custom made ottomans were made from a single rug for Manor Fine Wares. You can check them out at their store on 23rd avenue in Northwest Portland.
We created the pattern from scratch for this wicker chaise lounge. The seat is built of feather down with a foam core. The back is all feather down. When you lay back on this piece it is so luxurious you can hardly get up!
We worked with Shannon Christenberry at Manor Fine Wares and together we designed and built four large scale ottomans. You can take a look at these very attractive and sturdy pieces at their store on 23rd avenue in Northwest Portland.
This loveseat just went out the door. Modern ,elegant , well proportioned, lightweight and cute!!
Our friend Julia had some fun with her rocking chair choosing to add large red buttons against the brilliant blue chenille fabric.
The latest trend seems to be blue or teal. This is the latest sofa upholstered by Acanthus.
This is our latest custom made, eco-friendly, 3 piece sectional. 5/4 Alder frame construction with 100% organic wool over latex core cushions. It is designed so that the three seat cushions are all the same size to be interchangeable. They can be flipped and swapped! The corner piece can be removed and the two end pieces pushed together to make sofa.
Our customer has had these chairs for 60 years and they are still in great shape!
Spring is here! A customer is having us upholster their boat cushions in some seasonal appropriate colors.
The backs and seats of this sofa are upholstered with a quilted fabric.
It’s always a pleasure to come across something you haven’t yet seen. This sofa is a very simple contemporary design. But , inside, it is built like a ship. Very strong, 6/4 frame construction. The legs are set in further than most sofas of similar design. That seemingly small detail makes all the difference.
It’s funny , right know in the shop we have three sofas , each done in a primary color, red, yellow and blue. These serendipitous moments , especially having to do with color, happen a lot. Spring did arrive a little early this year.
This sofa is round everywhere. It can be tricky to upholster a sofa that is round everywhere, but Alex and April nailed it!
We’re doing a whole lot of pillows these days. Just finished a bunch of them! In fact we always have pillows to do; we sew them up between larger upholstery projects. Pillows are a quick affordable way to accessorize and make a big difference in the home. A little furniture bling !
We upholstered these dining room chairs with a graphite colored fabric. Very durable and cat-proof.
Most of the custom made sofas and sectionals that we build are contemporary. Rectilinear type designs. But it’s always a nice to upholsterer the round forms of a more traditional shaped sofa. Here is our latest effort in that regard. This is a reupholstered sofa. Our client chose a striped fabric and an accent welt that gives this piece a bit of a contemporary flair.
Twin chairs with upholstered legs.
A simple, no nonsense, Rocking chair.
We just finished another Danish modern recliner. Very comfortable.
Here is the button tufted “badass” couch in all it finished glory!
A customer brought us what he called his “badass” couch to be reupholstered. We removed all material down to the frame because it required some serious structural repairs. Here it sits, waiting for roughmans gentle touch.
I love this Danish modern chair. Like so much Danish modern furniture, there is so much elegance and simplicity in it’s design and function. This chair reclines , and is very comfortable. The headrest on the back is adjustable by way of counterweights on the back of the straps. Form, function, beauty and comfort, doesn’t get better.
One of our favorite customers brought two of their cats “favorite” couches to be reupholstered. They picked an earthly burnt umber fabric to fit the rustic setting at their vacation home. This is one of them. It is sooo comfortable. A good place to snuggle up with a good book. The “Cats Cradle”, perhaps.
Our customer brought this “club” chair in to be reupholstered. It was his fathers favorite chair and of great sentimental value. We retied the springs and upholstered it in this faux hair fabric! It is now his favorite chair.
Here are the vintage chairs we reupholstered for Spin!
We first met Morgan Gary, proprietor of Spin Laundry Lounge, at the tail-end of 2013 when we were commissioned to reupholster her collection of vintage chairs for her soon-to-open Spin Laundry Lounge. At that time, we had no idea that 9 months later, we would be moving from our NW Thurman St. address and be her neighboring business. While there are many reasons that we love our new location on N. Mississippi Ave, Spin Laundry Lounge is definitely one of them. If you haven’t seen this place, you need to! It is a truly unique venue.
In a nutshell, Spin Laundry Lounge is a sustainably-focused, state-of-the-art laundromat, that also offers beer, wine, coffee, and local eats in a comfy adjoining café. It is now Acanthus’ go-to place when we need to pre-wash/pre-shrink fabrics for our workroom projects, or grab a cup of joe to go!
